Sometimes A Link To Your Website Is Worth Nothing

Everyone wants and is looking for more links to their website, and getting a bunch of backlinks is good right? Just pay someone $20 to create a hundred directory submissions perhaps? Wrong. There are a couple of things you need to know about backlinks and the effectivness of them.

Firstly the quality of the link. If you have a link coming from a web directory then its ok, a few hundred of them may make a slight difference to your rankings. A link from a spammy site full of links to drugs and viagra products will be worth nothing. A link from an article directory can be good, but depends which aticle site you link from. So far, so depressing. But there is a way to skyrocket the importance of those pages that link to you, and luckily its something we do with every seo project.

A Link Is Not Always A Link

A Link Is Not Always A Link

A lot of SEO companies submit your sitemap to Google and forget about it, they submit articles to directories and thats job done. People assume that this will automatically give you a backlink to your website. The problem is that many of your linking pages, articles and directory submissions can take a LONG time to get indexed by Google (if they ever get indexed).  And if they are NOT in Googles index you are potentially missing out on targeted traffic.  Not only that, but ANY backlinks that you have on these pages will also count for nothing.  That is a fact.

So whats the answer? We make sure that when we create links, micro sites, articles to your website, we give those sites a link booster. We link to those pages, send them to the search engines for you to make sure they get indexed asap.

Remember, when looking at seo services for your website. A link not only depends on the quality, but also on whether it ever gets indexed by the search engines. Make sure your SEO company has it covered, like we do.

Sending Automatic Updates To Twitter and/or Facebook

  • Visit the website Twitterfeed.com and sign up
  • Once logged in click on “Create New Feed”
  • Choose either Twitter (and the account) or Facebook
  • Give name of the RSS Feed (e.g. Your Company name or keywords)
    • This name will only show for you in Twitterfeed, so make it descriptive
  • Add the RSS feed URL to the settings (you can find this on your blog page - usually called post rss feed. right click and copy link location)
  • Press “Test RSS Feed”
  • You should see green text below the RSS Feed URL field: “Feed parsed OK”
  • Go to Advanced Settings
  • Adjust the update frequency
    • My recommendation: Every Hour and 1 new update(s) at a time
    • You can update less frequently, or even every 30 minutes, but think very hard if you want to increase the number of updates at a time
  • Post content: For your blog feed, you probably want to choose “title only” if you’re posting to Twitter, “title & description” is good for Facebook
  • Make sure “Post Link” check-box is checked
  • Click on “Create feed”

There you have it, every post you make will go automatically to Twitter and Facebook. There are advanced uses for this and ways to expand but they are for another post.
